Preparing Meals for Brandy & Beckett

In Pets by Steve Sliwa

This post is the current step-by-step approach we use for preparing meals for our dogs.  The post is based upon our philosophy reported here.  We record it here to help with instructions for pet sitters, but the good news is that our dogs are currently healthy and variations from these formulas are fine.  Their supplements are reported here, but they can skip supplements while we are traveling with no ill effects.

The portions pictured below are a little light.  Now that they are at their ideal weights and their activity level is up (dog park fetching, swimming, etc.) we are adding more.  So we are adding an entire can of peas & carrots along with an entire can of supplemental protein.  Pictured below you will see some fruits sprinkled in and some pumpkin.

Sometimes we puree the toppings as health experts say it makes the food more accessible.

Notice the ‘slow-eat’ bowls.  They aren’t as tricky as some we’ve used, but these work with our dogs.

Admittedly, it takes 5 to 10 minutes to prep the meals.  But we are enjoying giving this much variety to the dogs and they seem to really enjoy it.  Their health is fine and their poops are normal and healthy.
