Holiday Letter 2015

In 2010s by Steve Sliwa

Dear family and friends,

2015, as with most years, has seen its share of joy and sorrow. Steve celebrated a milestone birthday last December and instead of hiding from it, embraced and spent the year working toward his “Sixty Sixties” goals, recording his progress at his website.  He inspired Nancy, who reached the same milestone this past October,  to at least do “Six Sixes”, which she blogs about on Facebook. It’s been fun to tick off the completed goals, everything from push-ups and hikes to indoor skydiving.

Steve has worked hard this year with his company Seeq, which has made excellent headway.  It now has released its first product and has several big name companies as users.  It still has the normal up and down challenges of a start-up, but that’s what he signed up for.

We sold the TBM this year, so our flying trips have been limited to commercial flights (Steve still flies the motorglider for fun). That didn’t keep Nancy from participating in some Ninety Nine section meetings. We also did a limited version of our annual East Coast trip, visiting Nancy’s mother, Steve’s former Princeton advisor, and his executive coach in New York City, and other friends.

We also visited friends in St. Louis, attended a wedding in Maine (our niece Ashley tied the knot) and spent time in upstate New York to achieve Steve’s “nostalgia” goals for his Sixty Sixties.

Our major “travel energy” went into a two-week trip to Spain with our Austrian friends, driving around the countryside starting from Madrid and ending in Barcelona. Steve was the group’s official photographer, and posted details of the trip at on Steve’s blog and at our photo gallery.  Suffice it to say, it was one of the most fabulous trips we’ve ever done!

Tabitha and Rich also moved from Seattle and returned to their house in Hood River, which means that we get to see much more of them. That is a joy indeed! Rich was able to continue working for Amazon with a mix of telecommuting and monthly visits to Seattle, and Tabitha continues her work with Seeq through their virtual office environment. They enjoy being back in Hood River with their circle of friends and the active outdoor sport environment.

We were very sad to lose our beloved golden retriever Angel to lymphoma in June. She was so even-tempered and eager-to-please that by the time she showed any symptoms, she was already late stage. Pixie and Casper, however, are still going strong. We’ve had a lot of success with a combo of Adequan. Rimadyl, and an Assisi loop to control Pixie’s arthritis, and she runs around quite happily with Steve at the dog park.

We were also sad to hear of the passing of Steve’s executive coach, Dr. Mortimer Feinberg, this December. Steve had developed a website of Dr. Feinberg’s books, papers, and accomplishments, and he attended the funeral in New York City.

All in all, however, we have been very blessed this year. We are back in Arizona for the winter, and expecting Steve’s brother and niece for Christmas. We’re hoping to have more friends and family visit during the coming year.

May you all be blessed with love, peace, and joy this season and in the months to come.
